-strengthened armor of the cockpit;
-replacement of the airborne radar by the sighting system for radio-command guidance of air-to-ground missiles;
-improved navigation equipment.
Use of the variable-sweep wing provides high take-off and landing characteristics of the aircraft and permits basing on class II airfields and natural-surfaced runways.
The external weapon mounted in 4 external weapon stations may include 2 pcs. of Kh-25MR air-to-surface guided missiles, 4 pcs. of pods of B-8 unguided air missiles, different types of aerial bombs, disposable bomb clusters, gun pods and napalm tanks.
